S'pore gears up to host world's first F1 night race next weekend

SINGAPORE: Singapore is hoping that the Formula One night race next weekend will help the country position itself as a premier lifestyle destination and the Monaco of the East.

It is all systems go for the world's first F1 night race and about 50,000 tourists are expected to be here for the event, along with 500 million television viewers worldwide.

Tickets are almost sold out. The only ones left are those that cost US$1,800 and there are only less than 100 of them left.

Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, S.Iswaran, believes the event will help boost future tourism arrivals and also sees it as an excellent networking platform for local businessmen.

They can host their clients in these corporate suites which cost US$3,100 to US$4,800 per person, promising excellent views and immaculate service.

The current financial meltdown may be affecting tourism spending worldwide. But Mr Iswaran said the F1 fanbase has a healthy appetite for retail.

Mr Iswaran added that affordable tickets have also been made available for heartlanders. Besides, many people are also participating as volunteer marshalls and F1 ambassadors.

He also said that besides the actual race, there are fringe events like the Singapore River Festival and Singapore Biennale which all Singaporeans can enjoy.

Singapore is expected to make about US$77 million from tourism receipts during the night race. It costs Singapore US$115 million to host the race. - CNA/vm

Young Singapore adults sinking deeper into debt

Singapore - Young employed adults below 30 are Singapore's fastest-growing group of debtors, a published report said on Sunday.
On average, they owe 55,000 Singapore dollars (41,000 US dollars) to about seven creditors, according to Credit Counselling Singapore (CCS).

The under-30s made up 13 per cent of all cases handled by the non-profit group last year, up from 9 per cent in 2006, said the findings in The Sunday Times. During the first three months of this year, the under-30s mired in debt climbed to 15 per cent.

CCS told the newspaper that most of the young adults are snared by materialism and splash money on cars, branded goods, overseas holidays, clubbing and gadgets. Gambling is also a strong lure.

It is a "definite cause for concern to see more young people with bigger debts," CCS president Kuo How Nam was quoted as saying. Succumbing to the temptations of consumerism while knowing little about financial and credit management are to blame, he said.

The Credit Bureau of Singapore noted that young adults between 21 and 29 are more likely to miss credit card payments, or not pay them in full, compared to other groups.

Counsellors suggest schools start equipping students with credit and financial management skills. Financial institutions should also practice more responsible lending and not encourage a proliferation of cards among the young, they said.
But bureau general manager Mark Rowley said it was difficult to criticize the banks, "as they're in the business of lending money." (dpa)

After they had heard the king,they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east
went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

When they saw the star,they were overjoyed.

On coming to the house,they saw the child with his mother,Mary,and they bowed down and worshipped him.Then they opened their treasure and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh

Jesus' last statement before he ascended into Heaven.

1. Who am I to invite and reach out ?

Exo 3:11
But Moses said to God,"Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"

2. What shall I say ?

Exo 3:13
Moses said to God,"Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them,' The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me,'What is your name?' Then what shall I tell them?"

3. Suppose they do not believe me ...

Exo 4:1
Moses answered."What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say,' The Lord did not appear to you'?"

4. I am not fluent in speaking ...

Exo 4:10
Moses said to the Lord ," O Lord, I have never been eloquent,neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant.I am slow of speech and tongue ."

5. Send someone else ...

Exo 4:13
But Moses said,"O Lord,please send someone else to do it."

1. Relatioship.
- Build Strong, committed and continuous friendship

2. Faith.
- God works through faith .
- Faith without action = NO FAITH
- Faith without works is DEAD.
- Faith must always come with action.

3. Action.
- Be an activist.
- Unless we do something,otherwise nothing will be done
- We need faith and action to see the result.
